Historical attractions include the Pataleshwar rock temple, the Aga Khan Palace, Shaniwarwada, Lal Mahal and Fort Sinhagad. Shinde Chhatri, located in Wanowrie, is a memorial dedicated to the great Satara Maratha, Mahadaji Shinde (Scindia). The city is also known for its British architecture of Raj bungalows and the design of the Garden City Movement of Cantonment since the early 20th century.
